Immunotherapy is a  category of cancer therapies that use the body’s immune system to fight cancer cells. These cells are different from normal cells, in that they do not die normally. Think of these rapidly-dividing cells like an out of control copy machine that won’t stop creating images. These abnormal cells frequently change, or “MUTATE’’, to evade the immune system.

In 2017, according to Cancer Treatment Centers of America, immunotherapies fall into three general categories: checkpoint inhibitors, which disrupt signals that allow cancer cells to hide from an immune attack; cytokines, protein molecules that help regulate and direct the immune system; and cancer vaccines, which are used to both treat and prevent cancer by also targeting the immune system.

In this year’s medical  journal, written by MD Anderson Cancer Center; at the University of Texas, says cancer cells are not recognized as invaders because they are the body’s own cells that have mutated, so that once-healthy cell no longer behaves like a normal cells. The immune system doesn’t recognize this distinction, allowing these dangerous cells to grow, divide and spread throughout the human body. One way cancerous cells stay hidden is by sending signals to the PD-1 CTLA-4 receptors at certain checkpoints on immune cells. Those signals trick the body’s police force into thinking the cancer cells are normal. Immunotherapy drugs, known as checkpoint inhibitors, are designed to disrupt those signals, allowing the cancer cells to be exposed as invaders and to trigger an immune system response. Cytokines and cancer vaccines are other types of immunotherapies used to generate an immune response by helping the body recognize cancer cells.

On the business side of the cancer care and treatment, according to Forbes, cancer is a multi-billion dollar a year industry in the United States. This is one of the leading sources of income for hospitals, clinics, oncologists, podiatrists, primary care physicians, neurosurgeons, and other doctors in specialty medicine nationwide. Many stockbrokers this year, are saying and showing statistics that cancer care is the way to wealth and earnings. As in the case of this year, many stockbrokers are pushing five high yield, high earnings, and great 401(K) potential stocks to their respective clients. These companies/corporations are: (Loncar Cancer Immunotherapy ETF-CNCR), Amgen(AMGN), one of the biggest and most well known names in biotech. Also, companies like Roche and Merck(MRK), AstraZeneca(AZN), Juno Therapeutics, Inc.(JUNO), and Incyte Corp. (INCY) that has an extensive oncology pipeline and is well positioned with both large and small molecule approaches to Immuno-Oncology.

According to this years report, released at the American Cancer Research forum, found United States cancer patients paid nearly $5 billion in out-of-pocket costs and the disease cost the country over $87.9 billion dollars in cancer-related health care spending. Kevin M. Murphy and Robert H. Topel, two University of Chicago researchers, estimate that even modest advancements against major diseases would have a significant impact – a 1 percent reduction in mortality from cancer has a value to Americans of nearly $500 billion. A cure for cancer would be worth about $50 trillion.

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in the United States, according to the CDC, About sixteen percent of people who have cancer, die from cancer. In 2015 alone, 8.8 million people died from cancer–nearly one in six global deaths. Cancer affects everyone–about seventy percent of all deaths from cancer occur in low to middle class countries. The top five cancers killing men are: prostate, lung, liver, stomach, and colorectal. These deaths combine to make cancer one of the leading killers in the country.

Cancer for one, is an extremely common disease. There are many different types of cancer in the world, but there are more common than complex. Some common types of cancer are as follows: Breast cancer, which forms in the cells of the breasts, prostate cancer, which forms unhealthy cells in the prostate gland, Basal Cell cancer, which forms in the basal cells of skin, melanoma, which is the most serious type of skin cancer, embedded deep in the skin cells, Colon cancer, which forms in the lining of the colon, lung cancer, a cancer that begins in the lungs, leukemia, a type of cancer that attacks the blood cells(White and Red), and other types of slow forming, or small cell cancers.

Caner for one is a very strange disease to have. The reason some say this is because, some people with cancer, don’t even know they have it. It takes many tests and diagnosis to find a pinpointed cancer. Cancer has changed over the years, to become one of the most talked about topics in most american households. The people that have this disease, have a changed lifestyle; including: fatigue, dizziness, lack of judgement, also, people do not want to be involved in certain activities anymore.

The variety of cancer is outstanding. There are so many cancers out in the medical world, but still so many have not yet been discovered. New cancers are being found everyday, and new treatments have to also be discovered for these new cancers. Cancer is by far the most known disease, or sickness in the world. People are now more aware of it in recent years.

As cancers get more arridicated, or widespread; new technology must develop to meet the demands of this new era of cancer. Technology has an important and dynamic role in this era of cancer care. New technologies are being developed everyday for this said topic. New technologies could be made for any type of cancer, or for a specific pinpointed cancer. Cancer care technologies also mean more people can get better, or get treatment. New technology can be anything. It can be a new laser therapy, radiation therapy, light therapy, intravenous therapy, and more.

Cancer is one of the most widespread epidemics in recent years. There are people that know they have it, and some who don’t. Cancer has many people shelling out millions a dollars a year in medical bills. Also, cancer is one of the deadliest diseases to have. Believe it or not, cancer has a grip on all of us.
