Baseball: Wildcats Finish Season Winning Note

The Wildcats traveled to Central Regional on Monday, May 21, to take on the Eagles in the
opening round of the State Tournament. The first two innings were a defensive battle between
the teams, each team remaining scoreless. But it was in the third inning when Central’s bats got
hot, knocking in three runs that inning, making the score 3-0, Central. Then in the fifth inning
Central added two more runs to up the score to 5-0. Despite coming out with a loss, Noah Dean
pitched an outstanding game recording 12 K’s through 4 2⁄3 innings. The final score ended in a
5-0 loss for Pinelands as they recorded only two hits the entire game.

The Cats then traveled to
Toms River East on Wednesday, May 23 to play the Raiders in the first round of the SCT. The
Cats were seeded #19 and T.R. East was seeded #15. Pinelands started the game by loading the
bases in the bottom of the first inning but could not capitalize as they ended the top of the inning
scoreless. Then Toms River East took their turn at bat and did capitalize, scoring three runs,
making the score 3-0 after the first inning. The rest of the game remained a defensive battle and
no additional runs were scored. Joey Ventresca picked up the loss on the mound, striking out 9 batters in the process. Pinelands only recorded 3 hits on the day.

The Cats then ended their season on Thursday, May 24, playing at Doc Crammer Field, on Senior Night. The Cats finished the season by beating Southern Regional H.S. by a final score of 6-5. Ventresca hit the game winning walk off double to score Nick Rapallo for the win. Peter Hammond picked up the win on the mound. No other information was given on the game. The Cats ended the season with a record of 10-11. Awesome job Cats!
